Artist Statement & Biography:
My work as an artist is one of continual struggle whereby I attempt to narrow the chasm between vision and reality. Since 2000, this struggle has led me down two very different paths. The first of which is evident in my Black and White series. Following many years of teaching drawing and perspective, my black and white latex paintings are an attempt to avoid perspectival presentation so that the paintings without illusions are more organic and multidimensional and thereby open to the viewer’s imagination.
More recently, I’ve found myself drawn to the human body and the psychological aspects of the human face and body. The last several years have produced paintings that attempt to convey both the physical reality of the human body and the complex array of human emotions.
