Artist Bio:
Inspired by cartoons as a child, Rich Miller often re-created his favorite characters on just about anything, including the underside of coffee tables. In junior high his skills progressed from a hobby to a passion as Rich enrolled in advanced art classes through high school and would go on to attend the Art Institute of Pittsburgh where he earned his B.S. in Graphic Design.
His color use, bold lines and emphasis on detail when creating his characters lends itself to his childhood cartoon influences and graphic art background. Miller loses himself in his characters, often finding himself covered from head to toe in paint.
Miller explains, "My backgrounds are similar to Jackson Pollock while my foregrounds are like Dr. Seuss .I let the paint blend itself naturally while on the canvas. I use different ways to get the paint on the canvas from water guns to paint bombs, sometimes I will catch the paint on fire to get the effect I want."
